Marriage does not only create a kinship. It also joins together two souls in the Holy Sacrament of Matrimony. During a wedding ceremony, the couple exchanges vows to stay together even when life gets ugly and difficult. After the ceremony, the wedding reception takes place, and this is when the father of the bride/groom, the best man, and the maid of honor deliver their speech. Other relatives of the newly wed couple may also do so. With that being said, here is a sample sister of the bride speech.
The start of your speech could go somewhere along the lines of thanking the wedding guests – your family, your relatives, your friends, and other guests – even the people who have helped in the wedding preparations. Introduce yourself, and then proceed with the thank you’s. Say something like “Good afternoon, everyone! I know that I am not nearly as popular as my gorgeous and radiant sister here, and so for those of you who do not know me, I am the bride’s very proud sister.”
Once the introduction and the brief welcome have been finished, you may congratulate the newly wed couple and express your joy and pride owing to your sister’s wedding. Proceed with “So, I am here standing in front of all of you to deliver a short speech, which I must say, I haven’t really gotten around to prepare for. Bear with me, ladies and gents. Anyway, I believe congratulations are in order. Sis, and to your charming husband, congrats! Envious as I may be since you have caught yourself a nice young husband, and I haven’t yet, please know that I am truly happy for you. You deserve it, sis. You do.”
“And I would also like to warn my brother-in-law – Hurt her, and I’ll hurt you. But seriously, love her and take care of her. Most importantly, never ever give up on her. Marriage, as they say, is never easy. You won’t always agree on things. But trust that your love is enough to make everything alright.”
“My wish for the both of you is that you’ll find the happiness that you deserve within your marriage. Never falter on your love, because it’s true. Prove to us that true love does exist, and it exists in your relationship. May you have as many kids as you want, and may your family be centered on our Creator.”
